The property occupies a prime location within the airport, situated near the terminal. In addition, airplanes are able to move between any of the three existing runways and the property without crossing another runway. It is also near a fourth runway that is currently under construction with an anticipated completion date in 2010.
The maintenance centers are used for types of airplane maintenance that are required for operation of the aircraft, and both are currently being used 24-hours per day. In addition to Japan Airlines aircraft, airplanes from foreign carriers could also undergo maintenance at the facilities. The land on which the maintenance center sits is nationally-owned land, and the Fund was granted land-use rights by the Director-General of the Tokyo Regional Civil Aviation Bureau.
Haneda Airport serves mainly domestic flights out of Tokyo. The airport is the busiest in Japan in terms of passenger departures and arrivals, and the fourth busiest in the world. Its importance is expected to increase further after the fourth runway and a new international terminal are completed.
